Handbrakes "web optimized" and encoding for Android

Postby stopsatgreen » Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:31 pm

I'm investigating encoding video for Android, and have found that the only sure way to encode a video - that I've found so far, at least - is to encode in Handbrake and make sure the 'Web Optimized' button is checked. As far as I can tell this optimises the MP4 for streaming, but I don't know much beyond that.

What I was hoping you experts could tell me is this: What does 'Web Optimized' do, and is it possible to recreate that when encoding with Openshot?

Maybe you should ask the good folks over at Handbrake what it actually does, and then come back and post the answer here. Then, I dare say, someone here can tell you how to do the same in OpenShot.

The Handbrake site doesn't explain what this setting does, but I found this explanation on the forum:

Places the MP4 atoms at the beginning of the file instead of the end - assists with faster start of streaming playback from certain devices but makes changes to the atoms less efficient (metadata, etc.)

Does that help? Is that something OpenShot could do too?

Hi,

When you choose an utilisation (here the web), you have some constraints like the format (I.e. MP4) the codec audio and video , the size,..etc that you have not or they are different for another utilisation (I.e Desktop, network,...)

I hope that 's your light is working now.
