Two Cameras

Postby Mark » Mon Mar 22, 2010 1:45 pm

Greetings...

Finally an intuitive video editor for Linux! Congrats to all involved.

I have 2 video of an event from two cameras. In other video software I would line up the videos based on the audio WAV form and then fade back and forth between videos to make a dynamic video. I cannot figure out how to line videos up in OpenShot based on the audio. Also when I fade to the 2nd video I need it to stay on the 2nd video until I fade back. Currently once the fade has completed it reverts back to the 1st video.

Thank you in advance for any advice..

We don't currently have audio waveform support (it is on the todo list, but the focus so far has been getting the basics right).

So you have two video files on separate tracks, one above the other? I've a feeling you may need to 'cut' each clip (so each track looks like it has multiple clips on it, rather than 1 long clip) at the point you want to do the fades - you can then set the fade points on each section of the clip.

I haven't tried your particular workflow so I'm not sure if there's another way of doing it.

I'm doing the exact same thing.

Here is what I did.

First, The way things work is that if you have two tracks and there is a clip i both of them, the topmost clip will be visible. If you want the bottom track to be visible during a specific period, you must make the clip on the top track go away for that period. There are two ways to do this. Both involve using the razor to make two cuts in the top-most clip, one where the bottom clip should start to be visible, and one where it should end to be visible. After you have done this, you have "isolated" the part of the topmost track which you want to remove, to make the bottom-track visible. There are two ways to remove the clip:

1. Remove the clip.
2. Hide the clip, i.e. click on the little "eye" at the left of the clip in the track. A red cross will appear over the eye, and the clip will not be visible.

Your transitions will now work as you intended.

And for syncing the two tracks I just play the audio for the bottom track, while looking at the topmost clip, and then just moving it until it matches. It helps to zoom in at lot on the time-line. It is not perfect, and it would be a great help if one could get the two tracks in sync by just looking at the waveforms of the audio, as you propose. Something for the "Feature Request" department.

I'm trying to do multiclip editing as well. Has anything happened since 2010 to do this without cutting up the video?
