A clunky install, but a solid application.

A Kdenlive user decides to install openshot.

After installing from the PPA, and DEBs Openshot would not start because of some MLT python error.
Then I followed this tip from some forum:

sudo ln -s libmlt++.so.0.4.10 '/usr/lib/libmlt++.so.2'

Presto! It runs.

As a Kdenlive user I missed some features like click to dissolve clips, and fade to and from black. (maybe I will find these later). However openshot does two things very well

1. It renders to a chosen format reliably
2. It does not crash in the middle of your work.

I was certain that these two things were mandatory in Linux Video editing ;-)

All in all a very inspiring first night in Openshot - well done!
