openshot-qt dumps core on start after install on Ubuntu 1404

Postby dkarr » Mon Feb 29, 2016 8:10 pm

I'd prefer to use openshot 2.0.6 on my CentOS7.2 laptop, but until I can figure out how (and whether) I install it on that, I tried to install it on my Ubuntu 14.04 VM. I followed the instructions to add the ppa repo and installing the app itself. Right after it completed, I ran "openshot", not realizing that this would have installed "openshot-qt". When I ran "openshot", it prompted me to install openshot with apt-get, which I did, thinking that was just some auxiliary to what I just installed. I'm guessing that actually installed openshot 1.4.3.

After I did all this, I then ran "openshot-qt". It chugged for a bit, and then dumped core before opening a window. The file at ~/.openshot-qt/openshot-qt.log" doesn't give me much info about what failed.

Do you see an error message when you run openshot-qt from the command line?

Well, I was going to say "well, obviously 'Segmentation Violation'", as I said pretty clearly, but I just started it up now, and it came up completely with no complaints. Sigh. I hate when that happens. Hopefully the failure was a fluke, not this successful startup (and yes, I tried shutting it down and running it again, no problem). Whatever.

Hmm, well, I thought things were fine now, but I'm now getting frequent core dumps just using it.

Initially I could just get it to crash by importing my ogv and placing it in a track, and then playing it. After about 40-50 seconds, it would die consistently.

I then tried doing other things besides just playing it, like setting the time location to about a minute in, then importing a png and placing it in a track, and then it crashed right after that.

The log file doesn't say much.

I have a ".crash" file in "/var/crash", but I'm not sure what to do with it.

Update:

If it matters, I installed "apport-retrace" and generated a stacktrace from the crash file. Here's the first few entries from it:
------------------------

Does it only happen with ogv files? You could file an issue here: https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/issues
