[SOLVED] H264 Fails Ubuntu 11.04

Postby rbrown3rd » Fri May 20, 2011 1:54 pm

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 with all updates as of this post. I love OpenShot but cannot get it to export to H.264. I have installed the libavformat extras etc. I have tried everything. Is there a "trick" to getting OpenShot to see the H.264 Codec?

Hi,
You must use the version of ffmpeg who is in the Medibuntu repository. You will find more explanations here : http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=914

Works fine on my desktop running 11.04 but not on this laptop. I just checked and have the repository setup properly and reinstalled ffmpeg but still no joy. i'll reboot and see if that helps.

Failed even after rebooting. OpenShot gives a link that takes me to:

To fix this problem in Ubuntu / Debian, use the following steps:

Step 1) Open Synaptic Package Manager
Step 2) Search on "libavformat"
Step 3) We need to install the alternate version of libavformat... the one with h.264 and mp3 codecs. These package names vary from distribution to distribution, but it should be something similar to:
a) libavformat-extra
b) libavformat-unstripped
Step 4) Close and re-launch OpenShot. You should now be able to use libmp3lame, h.264, and many other restricted formats.

I tried that too and it didn't work. I am stumped now. Any ideas appreciated.

Solved. Went to Synaptic and installed libavformat-extra-52 and that did it.
