Problem installing with Lucid Lynx 10.04

Postby ibexslam » Sat May 21, 2011 11:53 pm

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a flash drive, then tried to install OpenShot via the PPA, but I get this message in the terminal:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
openshot: Depends: melt but it is not installable
Depends: python-mlt3 but it is not installable or
python-mlt2 but it is not installable
Recommends: frei0r-plugins but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

Uh...I thought I'd be in good shape with a Long Term Support release (as opposed to "bleeding edge"). Can someone please point me in the right direction to fix my "unmet dependencies"?

Hi,
Take a look here to see all the dependencies need by the last version available in the PPA
http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=758
and for having a total support of all the formats
http://openshotusers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=914
Good luck.

I'm sorry...I don't really understand what that means.

Is there something in particular that I can enter into the terminal that will make this program run on the operating system it was created for?

It's only going to work 'on the operating system it was designed for' if your system is not broken. The message 'E: Broken packages' indicates your system is broken somewhere.

When you say you have installed Ubuntu on a flash drive, what do you mean? Do you mean you are loading it as a 'Live' system from a flash drive each time you boot?

Hi Andy,

I've got a fresh-out-of-the-box install onto an 8GB usb flash drive via unetbootin. I thought I'd set it up with persistence, but that turned out to not be the case. Still not sure how to make that happen.

You have installed a software who have broken your package, you should find it. Did you have Kdenlive ? which version ? Mlt and frei0r-plugins are broken so it is certainly in this direction that you must go. Help you of Synaptic and the filter Broken package.

"You have installed a software who have broken your package"

That's just it -- it's a fresh install. I haven't added any new software.

Should I be using a different version of Ubuntu? I can put a different one on my flash drive if that will help. Or maybe a different distro, if that's what it takes?

Aie. I don't remember how I do when I have that. :?

Have you check with synaptic if you find with one broken ?

Have you/( could you ?) check on the boot if you can check your installation, normally you have an option like on a livecCD ? I have never try unetbootin. Have you try with a liveCD ?

When you have dowload Ubuntu is it an iso or a torrent ? Have you check his MD5sum ? Personally, I am using since a while (because I have had already in the past this sort of problem=) the torrent (instead of the iso) because a torrent is always good.

If I recall correctly, synaptic was not able to find some of the required units. Not in the available repository/ies.

I used a new version of unetbootin* (the version in the repository didn't have an option for persistence) and re-installed the OS to the flash drive. Same issue again.

* from sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/files/ . (Made executable as in unetbootin.sourceforge.net/)

Haven't tried a liveCD...is it possible to add software when running a liveCD? OpenShot isn't on-board.

The download was an .iso from the Ubuntu site. The MD5sum checks out OK.

OK, I think I've got it.

I entered this in the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openshot.developers

...then ran synaptic and nabbed OpenShot. The required dependencies were loaded along with it. That's what I was looking for!

Thanks, guys! See you in Cannes!

Perfect but this ppa is for the developers but actually, it is the same version than the official (i.e. for everybody).

Personally, I am using Remastersys which can create your own custom CD/DVD. Really powerful. And Clonezilla but it is not the same utilisation............
