Postby XXLRay » Wed Apr 29, 2015 11:56 am

I built a longbow from blood hazel during a speed bow building contest and documented the process.

I found this video fascinating, and when I shared it on Face Book it prompted a debate about whether older technology required a greater understanding of physics than contemporary technology, (the argument from those that saw it that way being that in contemporary technology everything seems to be worked out by computer models that rely on information that has already been gathered). I think if in the future all electrical power is wiped out by Solar Flares, and we are reduced to a state of primitive barbarism, Mr XXLRay is one of the humans who stands a better chance of surviving!

Tahnks for sharing :)
As an engineer I can say that building a bow from one piece of wood requires rather experience and crafting skills than theoretical knowledge As each piece of wood growth differently a lot is trial and error from a good instinct.
