Transition from clip to clip

I just can't seem to understand transitions well enough to get the effect I am looking for. I would like a transition, circle in to out is a nice example, from one clip to another clip. However when I add the transition the first clip will fade to black and then transition. I don't really want it to fade to black. Is this possible?

You need to overlap the end of first clip with the beginning of the second one.
The overlap must be as long as the transition time.

Hello guys! I don't want to open a separate thread. I have a possibly stupid question, but why an actual transition (i.e. moving from "brightness" 1.0 to 0.0 in the properties) occupies only the first half of the whole transition time? The rest is for the completely unneeded transition from 0.0 to -1.0, which visually does nothing? Currently I have either to make my transitions twice the longer than they need to be or manually fix "brightness" at the last marker every time. This is very awkward.

v2.3.3. Linux, Debian Stretch x64 + deb-multimedia.org repos. OpenShot is from the aforementioned repos. I am using h264 MP4 files as the sources.

Sorry. I'm working, and support, only 1.4x version (LibreShot).

Then I'll submit an issue on GitHub. Thanks for your attention!

Ah.... so that is the trick to make a transition work. It seems to require placing the transition on a clip first before the clips are overlapped, or else they will just do a fade and ignore the transition selected. This is a very clumsy and un-intuitive way to implement a transition. Can't the process be automated to just butt the two clips end to end, then place the transition on the joint and have the underlying clips automatically overlapped by the transition length? That's how a couple other edits I use do it.... very fast, easy, and fool-proof.

I also find that the transition seems to start later and end sooner than the end points of the transition marker on the timeline (Windows version 2.3.4)

I forgot to mention that the two clips must be in a different track.
When you put the transition between the tacks it automatically start at the beginning of second clip and stop at the end of the first one.
