[SOLVED] Where is the effects folder?

Hi;

I've installed Openshot 1.4 in Xubuntu. It is running ok but I need an effect to amplify the audio track and there is none available on the effects tab. I already used the properties of the video track to amplify to 150% but it's not enough and I'd also like to do it in specific parts of the video.

Anyway, I read around these forums and decided that maybe the best option would be to try and create my own effect from one of the existing ones.

So I am instructed to find the /openshot/effects folder. Problem is, I can't find it anywhere.

Having hidden files and folders shown I've looked in my home folder, in /usr, /usr/share, /etc, /bin... a lot of them.
I found .openshot in my home folder but there is no effects sub folder. I tried whereis command and it finds /usr/bin/openshot and the man file. Nothing else.

I'm going a bit crazy here... Can anyone help?

I'm not at all an experienced openshot user, but, i can provide a hint on volume up for just certain parts of the video.

You can cut a video track into smaller pieces using the icon, keep them all in the sequence, and apply effect "amplify 150%" just on the one's you desire.

[--][---------][--][-----] 180 seconds track split

[--][+++++++++][--][-----] 180 seconds track split with effect applied just on certain area.


Excuse me about my english, but i hope you get the point. I can´t remember if you can apply the same effect twice or three times for example in order to increase the ammount of volume up.

I think you can only apply the 150% increase in volume once. I tried to do it several times but did not notice anything different from the first.

As for the splitting of the clip I had already thought about doing it so as to apply the filter in those sections alone.

I just find it strange that this folder is so hard to find on my installation... And that no one yet has been able to answer me regarding that.

Hi,

On your distribution (Debian/Ubuntu/Linux Mint), the Openshot folder is localised at :

Code: Select all

/usr/share/pyshare/openshot/openshot/effects

Think to create with your xml file two icons for Medium and Small folders. Like it is a audio effect, it will be easy to duplicate those who are already presents.
Without that, it won't work. Good luck and it will be with pleasure that we'll include it in a next version of Openshot after opening a bug report on Launchpad, our development platform.

I just found and will try to create the effect.

In the meantime I've worked around the issue and extracted the audio to a file which I'm working in Audacity. I'll later add this in a track and mute the original sound from the video. I wanted to use Levelator on it but am having difficulties in getting that program to work.

So much so that I seem to have broken Openshot in the process... Levelator did require that I install some Python-related packages so I now have to sort through that...
