Video trim

Postby Mendelbot » Tue Jan 26, 2010 11:13 pm

I tried Openshot 1.0 and I was pleasantly surprised (although still not sure of why Pulseaudio SDL is required as dependency), and I only found ONE thing missing for it to fit every one of my purposes, and that thing is allow to trim, or specify the end of the video in some way. The minimum time is 1 minute, and it doesn't accept fractions, but I see myself with a 23 second video and no way (inside Openshot) to cut the rest so it is 23 seconds long.
Maybe this can be done with markers (start/end marker?) or a simple time selection (discarding anything above the specified limit).
While I can do it with mencoder, it's a really missed feature that will help many...and done visually is better at times, instead than command line.

I hope you consider this feature. Best regards!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but have you tried pressing the tab key to select the resize tool (maybe this could do with renaming) - you can then trim down the clip from either the start or end of the clip.

Thank you for the quick reply.

No, I would like to do that with the whole video, not individual clips. I am trying right now and the resize tool doesn't interact with the time line (the top bar where markers and time are displayed), which would be ideal. The idea is having an end result of a video exactly 23 seconds long (otherwise the audio keeps playing for one minute with no video clip to follow).
To put it in other words, a tool or setting to make the timeline a precise measure, the "project length" as shown in "Create Project" (which only accepts integers, the smallest video is one minute long, no less). Otherwise the resulting video needs to be trimmed to the exact length with an external tool.
